Thankfully, this spring/summer 2026 style forecast won't have you spinning in confusion or tossing out looks from earlier in the year. The 2026 warmer weather trends are an almost seamless flow-on from our autumn/winter 2026 trends analysis. Dark Denim

Midnight, deep indigo, and highly pigmented denim remain in the spotlight. This chic, sophisticated denim update offers a polished alternative to your vintage and lighter blue denim colours.

Along with dark denim, the cigarette jean silhouette will remain strong across spring/summer and well into 2027. The cigarette silhouette offers a clean, cool-girl edge to any look and is one of the easiest jean silhouettes to style.

How to spot a cigarette-style jean? You're looking for a high-rise, slim-straight fit throughout the leg. They often finish just on the ankle bone, so they look incredible when paired with a ballet flat or loafer, and equally cute with a kitten heel for a polished evening look.

1) Tailored longer shorts (Tip: for the most flattering length, opt for Bermuda shorts that sit either just above or just below your knee).

2) Elevated spring dresses (one and done). You can’t go past a great dress

3) Textured layers

4) Soft utility – soft barrel leg (soft bomber/utility jacket), lightweight trousers… neutrals

5) Sheer dressing – in very wearable ways (inserts, panels, lace trims)

6) White or tones of white – look for beautiful soft ‘off-white'.

7) Sleek shoes - trainers / points / squared-off ballet flats – which is great as they will help to balance the proportions of your wider / barrel-leg pants and jeans. Think 'low-profile'.

What makes a basic, well, 'basic'? At The Mum Loop, we prefer the term essential. An 'essential' helps form the backbone of any good wardrobe – they are your timeless, go-to pieces that you turn to when you don't have the brain power to pull a creative look, or that you use to layer or bridge other looks with. So how are we thinking of new-season's basics then? And what makes them 'interesting'

A lot of the strongest trend reporting is about familiar wardrobe pieces being given a twist: button-downs, shirt-dresses, denim, polos, simple dresses, skirts and pants. Vogue specifically describes SS26 as personality-driven dressing rooted in wearability.

How to make your everyday wardrobe feel more current for spring

The classic blouse → slightly prettier/interesting cut

Dress → easier, more fluid shape

Neutral outfit → add one strong colour

Simple outfit → add scarf/texture

Basics → one statement piece 

Colour – glorious colour; it's the easiest way to signal a seasonal shift. Drawn-out days and sun-filled moments call for joyful dressing. We feel good, so naturally, we want our fashion choices to reflect our good moods and sunny dispositions.

Colour has been such an interesting point of discussion in fashion for the last 12+ months. There has been everything, from cerulean blue, fire engine red, cloud dancer white, ballet pink, aqua, and even royal purple! While I love staying abreast of trending colours, I truly believe that (to quote Coco Chanel) "the best colour in the world is the one that looks good on you"! While it's really fun to dip your toes into new-season colours (and spring is the perfect time to do so), it's important to consider the tones that suit you best.

There is a blue for everyone; likewise, there is a pink for everyone – but to wear the most flattering pink, blue (insert colour), you should first consider your seasonal colour palette. One way to incorporate more colour into your everyday looks is to layer a bright or bold shade underneath neutral outerwear.

A spring/summer 2026 fashion trend I saw recurring in the Northern Hemisphere was the rise of 'sex appeal' and bedroom dressing. Tom Ford, Hermès, and Gucci were leading the fashion charge with airy lace and micro minis, sky-high pumps, and stiletto boots. We've seen the commercial distillation of boudoir chic manifest in sheer feminine blouses and mini slip dresses with lace trims.

As a mum, you might find it easier to gravitate towards the distilled interpretations of the trend, instead of going full-on sexy mode. Lace and crochet accents are having a major moment this spring. The delicate detailing feels perfectly suited to the season and adds just enough texture to turn something simple into something eye-catching.

Layering with sheer fabrics or incorporating pieces that have lace inserts is a tasteful and less scary way to adopt the trend. Lace dusters worn open or tied at the waist over denim, billowy blouses with gathering at the cuffs, and romantic off-white blouses with delicate detailing are all chic mum-friendly interpretations. Bermudas are the short silhouette of the season. Bermuda shorts are a longer-line tailored short, ranging from casual denim versions to dressier, more structured, suit-type fabrications. The appeal lies in their versatility – they can be easily dressed up or down with heeled thong sandals or minimalist flats.

Spring fashion is all about the Art of the In-Between. When the weather can’t make up its mind, chances are – you still need your trusty jacket or coat – so don't bury them away just yet. 2026 has been the year of the funnel neck bomber, and they are not going anywhere! Keep wearing your leather or nylon funnel neck bomber jackets, your long-line trench coats and cute swing jackets. Make the look feel fresh by wearing over your sheer lace layers, a new-season pop colour, Bermuda shorts, or a mini dress or skirt. 

Tip: Instead of thinking of your coat or jacket as the final concealing piece of your outfit, view it instead as one element of many – consider it in relation to the other pieces you're wearing and the overall colour palette – let it enhance your look rather than cover it up.
