“Essential oils provide us with a fragrant pharmacy full of remedies and delights for all aspects of our lives.”

Valerie Worwood, Clinical Aromatherapist

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the healing modality using plant essences, and is perfect for the child-bearing and rearing years. It is safe (when used correctly) for pregnancy and post pregnancy, with their attendant issues, as well as for baby and childhood conditions.

Extracted from certain trees, shrubs, grasses, roots, fruits and flowers the plant oils are concentrated in different parts of the plant and form an essential part of the plant’s immunity and protection. Vetiver, for instance, is made from the roots of a grass species. Germanium is from the flowering plant’s leaves and stalks; cumin oil is from its seeds and rose oil from flower petals. Citrus oils are from the peel and pine oil the needles and twigs of pine trees.

Not only a delight to the olfactory senses, essential oils are potent yet gently therapeutic.

It is well worth the time and expense to collect a few of the foundational oils to have on hand as they can be used in a variety of ways whenever the need arises. Or even in the welcome absence of any health-related issues, there is nothing more relaxing than a lavender and chamomile soak at the end of a hard day, when baby is finally asleep. Essential oils offer a system of healing that works across all aspects of our being: body, emotions, spirit. In that, they are truly holistic

“Nothing in the world is more precious to us than our children and it is a daunting responsibility to care for them. We all rely on the medical profession….and we should continue to take advantage of all the benefits modern medicine can offer us. But there are times when help is not available, when we have to fall back on our own resources and take the care of our children into our own hands.”
